Where an online casino’s footprint actually is
An online casino has no building full of slot machines, but it is not weightless. Its energy use sits in a few places: the servers that run the site and the games (often at the game providers, not the casino), live-dealer studios with lighting, cameras and streaming around the clock, offices and staff travel, and, for crypto casinos, the blockchain that carries deposits and withdrawals.
The last item can be the largest. Proof-of-work networks such as Bitcoin secure themselves by burning electricity, while proof-of-stake networks use a small fraction of that; Ethereum moved to proof of stake in September 2022. A casino that accepts Bitcoin cannot make that network greener, whatever it says about its own servers.
How to check a green claim
A credible claim names who did what, gives a number you can look up, and is confirmed by someone other than the casino. Use this table as a checklist:

Two further tests: is the report dated, so you know the claim is current, and was it checked by an independent verifier rather than written by the marketing team? If the answer to both is no, treat the claim as advertising.
What a green programme does not change
A sustainability programme does not change the odds. The house share of European roulette is 2.70% and of American roulette 5.26%; a slot keeps 100% minus its RTP, whatever the casino plants or offsets. It also does not replace the checks that protect your money: a licence you can find in the regulator’s register, a named operating company and clear withdrawal terms.

A practical takeaway. Choose a casino on its licence, its terms and your own limits, not on a green badge.
