Bonus Labyrinth: How to Work Out What a Casino Bonus Really Costs

April 14, 2026 • Trezstake.net editorial team

What changed on this page. The earlier version was signed by an invented “research team”, spoke of “500% matches with zero wagering” and claimed to have tested hundreds of exclusive offers, without naming a single source. Those claims have been removed. We could not see Trezstake’s current offers, because trezstake.com blocked our location, so this page shows how to price any bonus yourself.

A maze of casino bonus terms with a calculator at its centre

The one formula you need

A wagering requirement tells you how much you must bet before bonus money becomes withdrawable. Every bet carries the house share of the game (for a slot, 100% minus RTP), so the expected cost of clearing a bonus is roughly: amount to wager × house share. Compare that with the bonus: if the cost is higher, the offer is worth less than nothing on average.

Wagering on a $100 bonus Amount to wager Expected cost on a 96% RTP slot Expected result
10×$1,000$40+$60
20×$2,000$80+$20
35×$3,500$140−$40
50×$5,000$200−$100

Check what the multiplier applies to. If the terms say “deposit + bonus”, a $100 deposit with a $100 bonus at 35× means $7,000 to wager and an expected cost of $280. The results above are averages: the swings around them are large, and many attempts end with the balance at zero before the wagering is finished.

The rules that change the answer

Rule What it means What to look for in the terms
Maximum betA cap on the stake per spin or round while the bonus is active; breaking it can void the bonus and its winningsThe exact amount and whether it also applies to your own deposit
Game weightingThe share of each bet that counts towards wageringThe percentage per game type and the list of excluded games
Maximum cash-outA cap on what you can withdraw from bonus winningsThe amount or multiple, and what happens to anything above it
ExpiryThe time you have to finish the wageringThe number of days and whether the remaining bonus is removed at the end

Game weighting matters more than it looks. If blackjack counts 10% towards wagering, $3,500 of wagering requires $35,000 of blackjack bets; at a house share of about 0.5–1% that is an expected cost of $175–350. A low-edge game with low weighting is often more expensive than a slot at 100%.

Crypto bonuses: two extra checks

If the bonus and your balance are held in a coin rather than a currency, their value moves with the coin’s price while you play: 0.002 BTC is worth more or less at the end of the wagering than at the start, regardless of your results. And a crypto withdrawal is a blockchain transfer that cannot be reversed, so check the network and the address before you confirm.

  • Open the full bonus terms, not the banner or the pop-up.
  • Write down the multiplier and what it applies to (bonus only, or deposit + bonus).
  • Note the maximum bet, the weighting of the games you play, the cash-out cap and the expiry.
  • Multiply the amount to wager by the house share and compare the result with the bonus.
  • If the numbers do not work, decline the bonus; playing with your own money has no wagering at all.

A practical takeaway. A bonus never changes the odds of a game; it only changes how much you have to bet before you can withdraw. Set deposit and loss limits in your account before you accept an offer, never deposit more to reach a bonus tier, and never gamble on credit. If you find yourself chasing a bonus to recover losses, contact your national gambling support service (in Finland, Peluuri); it is free and confidential.

The RTP figure that drives all these calculations is explained in how RTP and volatility really work, and another type of promise that needs checking before you trust it is covered in how to check a casino’s green claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I estimate the cost of a wagering requirement?

Multiply the amount you must wager by the house share of the game you play (100% minus RTP for slots). A $100 bonus at 35× on a 96% RTP slot means $3,500 wagered and an expected cost of $140, more than the bonus itself.

Why can a bonus be cancelled if I bet too much?

Most bonus terms set a maximum stake per spin or round while the bonus is active. Breaking it, even once, can allow the casino to void the bonus and the winnings made with it, so check the amount before you play.

What bonuses does Trezstake offer?

We could not check. In September 2026 trezstake.com blocked our location with the message “we do not allow visitors from your country”, so we saw neither its offers nor its bonus terms. Read the full terms in your own account before accepting any offer.

The size of a bonus is on the banner; its price is in the terms. Five minutes with a calculator tells you which one you are really accepting.
